Whew! Lots and Lots of Cards!
June 18, 2007
Good Heavens we have been going through lots and lots of beautiful cards today! We are sorting and organizing our ATC and ACEO cards as well as going through an enormous amount of Non-Sports promo cards. We posted quite a few in the Card Shop if anyone is looking for anything and we will be updating our Non-Sports collection page with the latest cards by type and genre. To our amazement our Fantasy collection has by far grown the fastest with a dazzling array of artworks and styles. So its off to run some of the latest card scans into the databases and we will be putting up some really nice presentations and slideshows over the next week. As always…Happy Collecting…
Jerry Springer – Promo Card P2 – JERRY! JERRY!
June 17, 2007
This has always been one of our favorite TV Show Non-Sports promo cards.
From the card back: “For over eight years and 1400 shows, Jerry Springer has shocked and entertained audiences. With shows like “Holiday Hell Feast”, “My Brother Wants to be a Woman” and “Past Guests do Battle”, the Jerry Springer Show has rocketed to become the number one daytime series, reaching 20 million people every day. Comic Images captures this outrageousness in Jerry Springer Show trading cards, a 72-card series printed on 24pt stock with randomly inserted OmniChrome chase cards and Jerry Springer Autographed cards.”
Though this card series was never released, the OmniChrome chase cards and Promos cards are available in the market.

PETA – Chicken Chumps – 4 Card Promo Set
June 15, 2007
From the VegKids.com web site;
“Does the thought of chowing down on one of your friends give you the creeps? How about eating something that may as well have been dunked in the toilet? Well, this is the place for you! This site is for kids who care about animals and don’t want to eat them.
First of all, it’s not cool to animals. Factory farms—the places where most animals come from before they wind up in Happy Meals or disguised as an Oscar Mayer wiener—are nightmares for animals. Second, it’s not good for you and your family to eat meat: Eating meat causes cancer, heart disease, and strokes. Third, factory farming is one of the worst polluters around. “
This is a very interesting 4 card set of promo cards put out by PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. You can visit their web site at VegKids.com.
Only in Vegas – All Star Chefs
June 15, 2007
‘Only in Vegas, where your chances of having a Great Meal represent the best odds in town’
This is a very cool and very unique 12 card set of trading cards. We originally found this set on eBay and have yet to see another set offered anywhere. There is no date to speak of on the cards, so we dont know when they were produced. They are presented in one large sheet as though they were originally in a magazine of some sort. They are perforated but we have not separated them. If anyone knows any more about this card set we certainly would appreciate the knowledge.

ATC – Rhonda Williams – Opposing Levels
June 14, 2007
Staying on the subject of independant artists and original trading cards, here is a gorgeous example of an ATC by our very own REX Cards artist, Rhonda Williams, titled ‘Opposing Levels’. Rhonda calls her artwork style ‘Abstract Geometry’. This particular card is created in colored pencils and pen and ink on bristol museum board.

“I approach the creation of my works as a form of meditation. I almost never start a piece with a predetemination of what it will be when finished. In addition to sciences such as astronomy and and geometry, I’ve been very stongly influenced by more esoteric subjects like astrology and Tarot. All deal with the symetry of relationships between energies and objects and their affects on one another. ~~ Rhonda Williams ~~’
ACEOs – Humpty Dumpty and an Orange Tabby Cat
June 13, 2007
Here are two very nice ACEO cards we recently acquired from an eBay artist, Christine Fino, and her 10 year old daughter Alison. Though we have not received these cards yet, we are very excited and can’t wait until they arrive. This is not only a great example of the pure fun of Art and ACEOs, but is also educational for the young budding artists to understand some business fundamentals. Thanks to you Christine and Alison, keep up the great work!
If you would like to check out more of Christine’s and Alison’s ACEOs, you can visit their eBay listings by clicking HERE
BUS Passengers
June 12, 2007
Presenting the BUS Passengers of NYC
A unique collection of anonymous photographs taken by Daniel Falgerho
“These pictures were taken in Manhattan between 1993 and 1999. After I had a serious motorcycle accident in 1992 I came to the belated conclusion that riding a motorcycle in a city where everyone is in a big hurry and where the enforcement of traffic laws is essentially non-existent was not a good idea. Better late than never.
As a result I found myself riding the city buses almost everywhere and I was struck by the rich diversity of people I encountered: young people, old people, everyone in between, people of all ethnic origins, outcasts, homeless people, business types, nannies with children, members of all social classes. This is where New Yorkers really mix. Here you are in close proximity to people you may never see again, the atmosphere is far more relaxed than in the subway, there is a steady change of characters and you might even strike a conversation. Yes, a conversation between strangers in New York!
I had to document this. I decided to take pictures. Not quite surreptitiously but discreetly, shooting mostly from the hip, using small, quiet, unobtrusive cameras (a Contax T and a Rollei 35 S for those who must know).
From the beginning, I was enthusiastic about this project and few people seemed to mind. I caught a few looking right at the camera and two attractive young women positively glaring but everyone else either paid no attention or let me indulge in my quirky behavior. Hey, this is New York!
My heartfelt thanks to all of them.” – DF
